Charcoal is a medium well suited for the forest of British Columbia. Just as the plants in the forest, light and dark and line and surface vie with one another for space. Lighthouse Park, just a few minutes drive from Vancouver, is filled with trees 500 to 800 years old. There is a primeval, reverential quality to this place that commands respect and awe. Often I draw here and much of my "memory" for studio work comes from the charcoals done in Lighthouse Park.
