Letter 15: THE DEVIL
"... on the threshold of the All -- God himself -- there is the last temptation, by way of the void: the "dark night of the soul", of which St. John of the Cross speaks, signifying simultaneously union with God or, rather, the despair of nothing -- complete and supreme nihilism.
For this is the truth of which St. Anthony the Great spoke:
"No one, if he is not tempted, will be able to enter the kingdom of heaven. For, take away the temptations and no one is saved." (St. Anthony the Great) --VT
